camo is the new black

Camouflage is definitely having a moment this fall. And though I’ve always been a fan of utilitarian chic (in fact, I still have an old field bag I bought at an Army surplus store while in high school), I’m nonetheless impressed to see so many new über-chic camo looks. Here are some of my favorites . . .

I love the mix of camo and leopard here. It’s a clash that just seems to work. If you want to try it yourself, check out Sanctuary’s take on the camo sweater.

J.Crew’s fitted camo chinos look great paired with a polished schoolboy blazer.

Edith A. Miller’s mixed media camo dress is a fun way to transition from summer to fall.

Spiked plum heels not only complement these ankle-zip camo skinnies, but create a combo that’s just plain sexy. Elizabeth and James has a similar pair if you want to recreate the look.

Are you ready for the urban jungle?

pretty paper

I recently visited the gift shop at The National Portrait Gallery and came across the most gorgeous wrapping paper from Cavallini Papers & Co. With substantial heft, vivid color and wonderful old-school themes, this wrapping paper would surely make any gift standout.

The papers are so lovely, though, that I wouldn’t stop there. In fact, I bought two sheets to use as inexpensive wall art. I plan on hanging this insect taxidermy sheet in a guest bath.

And thought this sheet — a collage of vintage tickets — would look great in my son’s room, to accompany his collection of new and vintage wall pennants.

At about $4/sheet, art doesn’t get much less expensive than this!

Cheers!
